Managing Director of Airtel Sierra Leone has said the telecom giant is poised to creating over one thousand millionaires in the sixty days, amounting to Le1.2 billion as part of their ‘Bomba millionaire promotion’, adding that the promotion will target all Airtel customers across the country.
Speaking during the launching ceremony held at their Hill Station headquarters, Mr. Sudipto Chowdhurysaid the promotion, which will commence on Friday, 3July, is the biggest ever in the country.
“We will be creating millionaires in Sierra Leone in the next sixty days, one billion and two hundred million Leones will be given to our customers across the country. All someone needs to do is to recharge your phone with any amount of Airtel credit and be qualified to be a winner,” said Mr. Sudipto. “We are not asking you to call or send a text massage after buying credit, just seat at home and listen to the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Cooperation TV, Star TV, AYV TV and major radio stations across the country.”
He added that at the end of every week there will be a jackpot draw in which one customer will stand a chance to win ten million Leones, and that at the end of the sixty days, one customer will win one hundred million Leones.
Airtel is the leading private mobile phone operator in the country and the third largest in the world, with millions of subscribers spread across continents.
Chowdhurydisclosed that they had doled out hundreds of millions of Leones in previous promotions, but maintained that the current promotion would surpass the previous ones as their intention is to complement government’s post-Ebola economic recovery.
He recalled that few weeks ago they unveiled their brand ambassadors through the ‘IT’S NOW’ campaign which was launched to serve as a conduit to facilitate change and development among young people across countries they are operating in.
He said that years ago, after the eleven years civil war, the country was ranked as one of the fastest growing economies in the world until the Ebola outbreak in May 2014, which has killed no fewer than 3,000 people and badly affected the economy.
He said the ‘IT’S NOW’ campaign is not only to present icons to the people but they will use it as a vehicle to change the lives of Sierra Leoneans.
Meanwhile, a maiden draw was conducted exclusively for members of the press which was won by Olayinka Collier, a reporter for the Africa Young Voices, who took home one million Leones.
