…says Road Maintenance CEO

Chief Executive Officer of the Road Maintenance Fund, Abdul K. Kalokoh, has blamed the bad state of roads in the capital city, Freetown to waste lubricants emitted from vehicles, especially those operated by street garages.
Kalokoh was speaking yesterday at a press conference held at the institution’s administrative office, Maritime House, Government Wharf.
He said the public pays for the maintenance of roads and other projects, and implored road users not to destroy the roads, such as through the emission of waste black oil from vehicles which ply the roads.
He said the Road Maintenance Fund provides funds to the Sierra Leone Roads Authority, which is responsible for the maintenance of national roads network, while Local Councils have responsibility to maintain feeder roads. He said priority is often given to roads that lead to schools, agricultural areas, health centres and link communities. .
Mr. Kalokoh told reporters that funds have been provided to finance the rehabilitation of roads in the east-end of Freetown, adding that they are working closely with the Parliamentary Committee on Works and Housing.
He said 20% of their budget allocation for 2015, which is Le100.25 billion, will be allocated to the nineteen Local Councils in the country, adding that his staff will do effective monitoring of usage of the funds.
