In coming weeks, the Pademba road Maximum Correctional Centre will re- establish pipe borne water supply from the Guma Valley source after 10 years of disconnection, according to the Deputy Director General of the Sierra Leone Correctional Service- Mr. Dennis Harman.

The DDG said the management of the SLCS and the Guma Valley Water Company are in advanced talks to ensure that water flows into the Pademba road Correctional Centre.

On Tuesday 9th July 2019, some workers from the Guma Valley Water Company came to have a look at the current situation of the pipes connected into the centre, so as to enable them make informed decision when the reconnection work begins in earnest.

Mr. Harman recalled that in the past, the Pademba road centre used to have pipe borne water supply, but “something went wrong along the line, and since then water stopped flowing into the centre”.

He emphasised that in a bid to make water available at the centre, the SLCS has been spending billions of Leones on a yearly basis, using the water bowser to fetch at least ten thousand (10,000) litres of water from the Guma Valley hydrant on a daily basis, and whenever the tanker had mechanical problems the SLCS “contacts the National Fire Force to come to our rescue”.
