AIG Karrow-Kamara: sent on leave

The hierarchy of the Sierra Leone Police has announced that another batch of police officers have been transferred from one department, unit or division to another.

This is the second time the police hierarchy is making public names of officers to take up positions in different areas of command across the country since the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) took over governance in April this year.

Out of a total of 28 police officers in the memo put out on June 18, only the Director of Infrastructure and Estate, Assistant Inspector General Alfred Karrow-Kamara was asked to proceed on leave.

AIG Kamara was the Regional Police Commander East, stationed in Kenema during the past 2018 multitier elections.

But few days after the announcement of results of the run-off by the National Electoral Commission (NEC), he was transferred to headquarters in Freetown as Director of Infrastructure and Estate.

Sources say his transfer from the Regional Command office in the east to headquarters in Freetown and request to proceed on leave cannot be unconnected to his handling of incidences in then opposition stronghold in the run-up to the elections.

When contacted by Concord Times for his reaction, AIG Karrow-Kamara refused to comment.

“I don’t want to comment on it please,” he replied.

Also, according to the memo dated June 18, 2018, AIG Gloria O.V. Tarawally was transferred from being Director of Gender, Protocol and Hospitality to Director of Peacekeeping Operations Department, while AIG Mustapha Kamara was moved from Regional Commander Freetown-East to Director of Gender, Protocol and Hospitality.

In addition, AIG Kalia Sesay is now the Director of Community Affairs, while Chief Superintendent Mohamed Abu Braima Jah takes over as the Director of Crime Services.
