The erstwhile All Peoples Congress (APC) Deputy Minister of Works and Infrastructure, Madam Kadie Huliamatu Sesay, was yesterday granted a Le700 million bail plus two sureties after she appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura presiding at Siaka Stevens Street Court No. 1 for allegedly stealing a Toyota Jeep valued over USD $75,000.

Sesay was dragged to court on three counts charges ranging from Conspiracy, Larceny to Fraudulent conversion.

According to the particulars of offence in count one, the accused between 7th March and 19th April 2018, conspired to defraud the Government of Sierra Leone.

In count two and three, police alleged that the accused whilst he was deputy minister in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure stole one Toyota Jeep with registration No. AMK 889 valued USD75, 260, property of to the Government of Sierra Leone, which she fraudulently converted it to her own use.

Meanwhile, defence counsel, Lansana Dumbuya applied for bail on behalf of his client, noting that the only witness in court was a mere Transport Officer at the Ministry of Transport and Aviation.

He claimed that the vehicle in question was removed from the accused immediately after the March 2018 elections.

“After the March 2018 elections, some unknown people asked the accused to alight and they took the vehicle away,” he said.

However, police prosecutor, Inspector I.G. Fofanah objected to bail and canvassed the Bench to consider the seriousness of the matter.

Magistrate Bangura however questioned the witness as to the whereabouts of the said stolen vehicle but the witness replied in the negative.

In addition to the bail condition, the accused was also ordered to surrender her passport to the Master & Registrar with the matter adjourned to July 2, 2018.
