Two wrestling youngsters, Ibrahim Bunduka and Sahid Kargbo have both confirmed they will be representing the green, white and blue colours of Sierra Leone international wrestling competition.
The pair who are based in United States of America and always compete for their University; George Mason University, have finally agreed to represent the West African nation at the forthcoming World Championship in Paris, France and the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
According to the delighted President of Sierra Leone Wrestling Association, Prince Vandy Sualley, the pair’s decision to finally heed to his request is welcome news for the country and the local based wrestlers.
He said: “I am so excited because I have been pursing them for over a year and half now. Hopefully their coming will help boost our chances of winning more medals, especially gold at the World Championship and other subsequent competitions.”
“The Association is now working on all modalities in ensuring they meet all the international regulations and to have them in Paris as well as the Commonwealth Games.”
Bunduka and Sahid have not only been teammates, roommates and friends but they both have roots in Sierra Leone.
Ibrahim Bunduka was 7 years old when he was taken to Alexandria, together with his families as they were escaping the country’s civil war, while Sahid Kargbo remained in Alexandria all along; his parents and older brother left Freetown in 1991, just before the war spread.
