Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), has confirmed that the proposed friendly match between the Lone Stars of Liberia and Leone Stars of Sierra Leone, will go ahead in Monrovia, Liberia.
Just few days’ back, Vice President of the Liberian Football Association (LFA), Musa Shannon, hinted that modalities were being put in place for a friendly encounter with Sierra Leone before both teams play their opening matches in the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Just days after Shannon’s disclosure, the SLFA Media department has confirmed the match will go ahead and the Sierra Leonean team will depart Freetown on June 4 to Monrovia.
unlike Liberia who are preparing to face the Warriors of Zimbabwe in their Group G opener on June 11 in Harare, Sierra Leone will host the Harambee Stars of Kenya in Freetown on 10 June. And the two sides want to use the friendly match as a build up for their respective clash.
Already, the Leone Stars Coach, John Keister, has welcomed three of the long list of invited foreign based players for the Kenya match. Austria based attacking midfielder, George Davies, David Simbo from Turkey and goalkeeper, Alhaji Dauda Kamara, have all joined the home-based squad in training session.
The trio could be part of the squad that will head to Liberia for the said friendly encounter, while Denizlispor midfielder, Alfred Zagalo Sankoh and Victor Koroma of AGF in Finland were expected in Freetown late last night.
