…Deputy Sports Minister

Sierra Leone’s Deputy Minister of Sports, Ishmail Al Sankoh Conteh has said that this 2016 Rio Olympic Games has been an eye opener for both the Sports Ministry and the sporting disciplines for future competition.
Sierra Leone’s participation in the ongoing Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil ended last Saturday after all four athletes; two sprinters (Hafsatu Kamara and Ishmail Dudu Kamara) and two swimmers (Osman Kamara and Bunturabie Jalloh) despite putting up a decent performance.
They were all unable to reach the semi-final of their respective sports.
However, their performance did attracts the deputy Sports Minister who admitted that he was pleased with what he saw and read about athletes.
He said: “The Rio Games has been an eye opener for our Ministry, the sporting disciplines and the athletes. This has given us as a Ministry the chance to spot out more athletes, preferably potentials athletes that we will expose.
“I am very much impressed with the performance of Hafsatu.She was wonderful and her show gives us the opportunity to win medals in subsequent competitions. Ishmail Dudu the home-based sprinter for me was very outstanding. If we can give him the opportunity to attend training at any athlete’s camp, he too is capable to win Sierra Leone some medals.”
The Deputy Minister also showered praises on the swimmers who both set new national records in the 50m free-style.
“The performance of the swimmers speaks a lot and there is light at the end of the tunnel ,” he said, adding that they were hopeful of developing more athletes.
Al-Sankoh also praised the Ministry’s collaboration with both the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone and the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone which he described as great partnership.
