Assistant Finance Director at the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Alusine Chernor Abass Kargbo, yesterday testified in a Magistrate Court against his estranged spouse, Isata Kargbo
Kargbo, through his lawyer F.B. Conteh, had filed a private summons against his erstwhile wife after she allegedly refused to quit a property situated at No.12 Fadia Drive, Boama, Goderich.
Lawyer for the respondent, Ishmael Philip Mammie, told Magistrate Manuella Harding that his client tied the knot with the applicant in 2005.
He said that while they were husband and wife, they jointly financed the construction of two houses and that following a divorce proceeding in a mosque, the properties were not shared, hence he was contesting the eviction notice.
The EPA Finance Director said from the witness box that the property situated at Fadia Drive was his and that he was in possession of document to substantiate his claim.
He revealed that he divorced the respondent in February 2016 after a marital union of 11 years that didn’t bear a child.
He claimed the respondent was now a tenant in the house but had refused to quit even after a legal notice, thus the court summons.
He agreed during cross-examination that the properties were acquired while they were husband and wife, but noted that she did not spend a cent on the acquisition and construction of the said properties.
He also admitted that the properties weren’t shared because the respondent left home after he disclosed to her that he had had a daughter out of wedlock.
The matter will continue on 15 August, 2016.
