Second prosecution witness in a larceny matter involving one Mohamed Dumbuya, Detective Constable 12079 Abdul T. Bah, yesterday testified before Justice Musu D. Kamara.
Dumbuya has been on trial for two years now for allegations of shop breaking and larceny.
Led in evidence by State Prosecutor Aruna Jalloh, the witness told the court that he recognised both the complainant Haja Famata, and the accused.
Bah recalled that on Friday, 30 May, 2014, Inspector A. T. Bangura arrested the accused and brought him to the Aberdeen Police Station for allegedly being found in possession of house breaking tools and maliciously breaking into the shop of the complainant.
“I and DPC 10960 I. S. Koroma visited the scene of crime and we took photographs of the shop which was allegedly damaged. We also collected the house breaking implement at the said scene,” said the witness.
The detective further stated that when the accused was arrested that night, he claimed he was defecating around the shop, but his claim was proved otherwise.
Defense counsel Sonia Bubanie-Brown pleaded with the magistrate to adjourn the matter for cross-examination.
The accused was sent back to the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown and is due back in court on 9 August, 2016.
If the accused is found guilty of the offences under which he was charged, he would face a jail term not exceeding 14 years.
