An accountant at the Environment Protection Agency (EPA), Alusine Chernor Abass Kargbo, was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Albert J. Moody, presiding at Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.2, on three counts of domestic violence, contrary to the Domestic Violence Act of 2007.

The accused was charged with emotional, physical and psychological abuse of his spouse, Isata Kargbo, contrary to section 2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act of 2007.

Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Tommy Zizer, alleged that the accused emotionally, physically and psychologically abused his spouse between 1st and 31st May, 2015 at their residence on No.12 Fudia Drive, Goderich, west Freetown.

The court was told by defence counsel F.B. Conteh that the husband had also sued the wife privately.

But her lawyer, Ishmael Philip Mammy, told the court that there was a substantive matter already before the court, thus urged the court to proceed with the criminal matter to conclusion before it could hear and determine the private summon.

However, if the accused is found guilty of the said offence, he would be liable to two years imprisonment or pay a fine of five million Leones.

The matter would come up again on 10 August, 2016 .
