Nigerian-born attacking midfielder Victor Kayode says he is still waiting in the wings to pull on the colours of Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars.

The 29-year-old, who was born in Ondo state to Nigerian parents but qualifies to play for Leone Stars through his maternal grand-father, is still leaving doors open for another call-up to the Sierra Leone national team.

“My doors are always open and will still grab the opportunity to play for Sierra Leone,” Kayode told Concord Sports in an exclusive interview at his lodge in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Zira PK midfielder, who would be playing the UEFA Europa league next season, said: “I was really disappointed not to get the chance to play against Tunisia in 2012 during the Africa Cup of Nations final qualifying round.”

“I still have no regret in my decision to play for Sierra Leone and I’ll always give out my best for the national team,” the former AZAL player said.

Kayode has spent over six seasons in the Azerbaijan topflight league. He was first invited to the Sierra Leone national team by Swedish coach Lars Olof Mattsson after he was introduced by friend and former

Leone Stars skipper Ibrahim Kargbo, ahead of World Cup and Nations Cup qualifiers in June in 2012.

The then Leone Stars coach was impressed with the player’s performance in training and included him in his selection plans after his eligibility doubt was cleared.
