..Says Internal Affairs Minister

May 9, 2016 By Hassan Gbassay Koroma

Minister of Internal Affairs, Major Retired Alfred Palo Conteh, has said his ministry would be negotiating with commercial bike riders, Drivers Union, traders and others on how law and order could be maintained in the county, but singled out clique groups as exclusion.

Clique violence is on the increase in the country, with their activities posing serious threat to security particularly in the Freetown municipality.

On 8 November, clique groups in Bo, southern Sierra Leone, went on the rampage, terrorising people at gun-point, stealing mobile phones, bags, money and other valuables.

The new Internal Affairs Minister was speaking last Friday on the Africa Young Voices ‘Good Morning Show’ while responding to a question of how he intended to guarantee internal security in the country.

He revealed that since he took office he had held two meetings with the hierarchy of   the Sierra Leone Police as part of his plans in ensuring that everybody enjoys full security and human rights.

“We are not going to negotiate with any clique groups because once we do that next the armed robbers will also want a negotiation,” says the Internal Affairs Minister.
