Social Organizational Society (SOS) on Wednesday July 1st awarded deserving mothers of their children’s homes and staff who have worked with the organization from 10 to 30 years.

The award ceremony was held in commemoration of International SOS Day and its founder, Hermann Gmeiner, who in 1949 decided to help children who lost their parents during the Second World War.

SOS National Director, Olatungie E. Woode, said Hermann Gmeiner started his journey some 60 years ago at age 19 by establishing SOS children’s villages.

He called on the children residing at the villages to make good use of the privileges offered them and prayed that government officials will visit the family homes.

He commended officials from the Ministry of Social Welfare, Gender and Children’s Affairs, especially the minister, for honouring their invitation on a short notice.
