Sierra Leone national team, Leone Stars, may face their Malawian counterparts The Flames in an international friendly encounter on 21 March at the National Stadium in Freetown.

According to the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) media officer, Abubakar Kamara, the Malawi friendly is a warm-up tie for the team’s two-legged African Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon, while Malawi will also use the friendly as preparation to face Syli Nationale of Guinea on 25 March.

However, arrangements to use the National Stadium are yet to be finalised as the SLFA and the stadium management are yet to reach an agreement for the use of the venue.

Already, players have been invited for the proposed friendly match with Malawi and the games against Gabon’s Azingo Nationale.

Sierra Leone’s doubled ties with Gabon are in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying schedule but will score no points because the Central African nation will be hosting January’s finals.

Leone Stars are currently bottom of Group I in the AFCON qualifiers behind Sudan and African champions Ivory Coast. The country’s next competitive match in the qualifiers is against Sudan on 3 June.
