The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has confirmed that Ghanaian tactician Sellas Tetteh will continue his role as caretaker coach of the country’s senior national team, Leone Stars
Tetteh’s loan agreement was extended by the SLFA executive committee and he will be in charge of Sierra Leone’s two legged ties against Gabon in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
However, the Gabon match is a no points scoring clash for the two sides as Gabon will be hosting next January’s finals which exempt them from playing the qualifiers. Nevertheless, they will use the tie as a friendly fixture.
According to SLFA media officer, Abu Bakarr Kamara, a final decision on Tetteh’s future will be decided after the Gabon match.
He said: “After the Gabon matches we will decide whether to make it permanent or not.”
The 59-year-old coach, who was contracted in August 2015, took charge of Leone Stars matches against Ivory Coast and Sudan in the 2017 Nations Cup Group I qualifiers and also the 2018 two-legged World Cup qualifiers in which Chad eliminated Sierra Leone on away goals.
Tetteh and his boys will host the Gabonese in Freetown on 28 March, just three days after the first leg in Franceville on 25 March.
The Gabon tie will be the first international match to be played in Freetown since the African football governing body, CAF, lifted the international ban on all footballing actions following the Ebola scourge in the country.
