Secretary General of Western Area Football Association (WAFA), Kasho Holland-Cole, has urged membership not to participate in the just commenced Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) LEOCEM FA Cup tournament.
In a public announcement, the WAFA scribe described the competition as an illegal tournament, adding that the SLFA has never contacted them for the implementation of the said competition.
He said: “Members of WAFA are requested to refrain from taking part in the [FA Cup Competition] until Isha Johansen and team account and report on the Le 13.1 billion received from FIFA on behalf of SLFA members, until they provide the necessary funding for the seven-man committee to carry out their mandate with immediate effect and convey Congress and to investigate all match fixing allegations.”
“Until all mentioned are met, WAFA will not participate in any football activity organised by Isha Johansen and team,” added the WAFA scribe.
Holland-Cole also informed the WAFA membership of their planned divisional (first and second) competition which he said would commence pretty soon.
Meanwhile, the second edition of the LEOCEM FA Cup tournament kicked-off Saturday, 5 March in what was described as a colourful opening ceremony at the Wusum Mini Stadium in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone.
The opening ceremony saw Ocean Boys defeat Teko Boys Society 3-0, with Ocean Boys skipper Saidu Koroma bagging a brace.
The champions of this year’s tournament will take home Le40 million, while the runners-up will pocket Le30 million. The third placed team will secure Le20 million, followed by Le10 million for the fourth placed team.
