Sierra Leone will for the first time host the ‘Sierra Leone strongest man’ competition on 29 April at the National Stadium in Freetown.

The tournament, which is organised by ‘Salone Got Talent’ group, is expected to attract over 20 competitors countrywide, with a prize tag of Le100,000,000 (one hundred million Leones) for the lucky winner.

According to Chief Executive Officer of ‘Salone Got Talent’, Ibrahim Wurie, the decision to organise such competition was meant to give opportunities to neglected talents in the country, adding that their desire was to start exposing Sierra Leonean talents on the international stage.

Wurie said: “At the end of this competition the eventual winner will represent Sierra Leone for the first time in the world strongest man competition, which will come up later this year.”

“We are to give opportunities to those Sierra Leoneans who have felt left out from sporting discipline or society and this will never be a one-off competition, that is why we have toured all over the country to identify talents not only for the strongest man competition but also group dancing,” he said.

The former British navy officer also revealed that international referee experts would be traveling to Freetown to make final assessment and officiate the tournament.

For an individual to scoop the Le100,000,000 cash prize, he has to completes 10 events –  caterpillar tyre rolling, five bags of rice carrying, land cruiser pulling, 100 meters 50x2kg down bell, range rover sports tug of peace, etc.
