The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IMAT College has disclosed to journalists that his institution would offer scholarship grants worth Le200 million to 100 deserving students for the 2016/2017 academic yea.
IMAT College is affiliated to the University of London and was established in 2009 for Sierra Leoneans to acquire London degrees without travelling to England, according to CEO Amadu Justice Bah.
“This is a golden opportunity for many Sierra Leoneans to study and earn a degree of the same standard as those in the campus in the United Kingdom. Somebody should pick the form at our campus for free of cost. Before our brothers travelled to the UK and were subjected to hard conditions like accommodation and even travelling expenses,” he said.
He said they offer degree, OND and HND programmes in Law, Human Resource Management, Business Administration, marketing, development studies and computer sciences, among others.
Speaking last Friday at his 20 Henenssy Street office in Kingtom, Mr. Bah told newsmen that his move to award scholarships to students was triggered by the college’s corporate social responsibility and to complement government’s effort in improving education.
He said his institution ‘has a vision to make Sierra Leone the factory for human resources for the sub-region’ as they have recently gained affiliation with the General Lansana Conte university in Guinea, adding that students would now be opportune to study the ‘first truly’ bilingual degree programmes in the Mano River Union countries.
He revealed that last year they offered university scholarships to 70 under-privilege students, which they have increased to 100 to open room for more students to access university education.
Bah encouraged students with a minimum of three credits to apply for certificate courses, those with four credits should opt for Higher National Diplomas, while applicants with five credits are eligible for degree programmes. He noted that the scholarships would be awarded to deserving students that meet the requirements set by them.
The Media Brand and Communication Adviser, Amadu Sandy, called on all and sundry to make use of the opportunity as their aim was to make education in Sierra Leone an exportable brand.
Admission Manager, Neneh Binta Senesie, invited the general public and students that are currently enrolled at IMAT College to attend the forthcoming open day programme on campus, scheduled for March this year.
