President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Madam Isha Johansen and the current acting FIFA president, Issa Hayatou, are expected to discuss the ongoing wrangling in Sierra Leone football amongst other deliberations.

Johansen traveled to the Rwanda capital of Kigali last Sunday to honour an invitation from the acting FIFA boss, who also doubles as the African football governing body, CAF president. Mr. Hayatou is currently in Kigali for the closing ceremony of the 4th edition of the African Nations Championship.

According to a press statement from the SLFA media department, the two officials would have discussions on pertinent issues relating to women football development in Africa and the status quo of football in Sierra Leone.

The SLFA statement reads: “With Madam Johansen being the CEO of the Power Play initiative, it is expected that discussions would center on the…initiative, which has been endorsed by CAF as an official ingenuity for women and girls throughout Africa, and a discussion on the launching of the said project is imminent.

“It is further expected that an overall assessment of the wrangling within the SLFA and Madam Johansen’s plans to implement structures and the integrity problems within the FA will also be discussed.”

Several efforts have been made by different parties including the country’s President, Ernest Bai Koroma, to resolve the ongoing impasse in the country’s football but there has been no headway.

In August 2015, Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi traveled to Freetown to resolve the stalemate following a directive by the world football governing body, FIFA with the aim to restore order in the beleaguered Sierra Leone football hierarchy but to no avail.
