Deputy Minister of Health and Sanitation II, Madam Madina Rahman, departed the shores of Sierra Leone Tuesday 26th January to participate in a consultative meeting in New York, United States of America with faith-based leaders.
The objective of the meeting is to gather support of regional executive board members for the implementation of the action plans that emerged from the Dakar consultations.
The consultations will be an opportunity to present to the international community, donors and other agencies of the United Nations system, the importance of collaboration between the government, development partners and religious leaders to advance issues of health and education of young people to benefit from demographic dividend.
The meeting will also galvanise support in helping to expand partnerships with religious organisations from other regions as a strategy to target 17 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The invitation was extended to Sierra Leone by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Regional Director for Western and Central Africa (WCARO) to the two-day meeting, which commences today January 28.
