A local non-governmental organisation, African Kind Hearts, with support from China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Action, over the weekend donated food and non food items to communities devastated by the Ebola outbreak in the Marampa Chiefdom, Port Loko district.

At a ceremony held at the local court house in Lunsar, Paramount Chief Bai Koblo Queen of Marampa Chiefdom thanked the organisation for choosing his chiefdom as well as Ebola orphans.

The traditional leader stated that the deadly Ebola virus disease devastated his chiefdom and left behind children that are now orphans.

“Let me at this juncture praised the philanthropic effort of the organisation for caring for the orphans and it is my fervent hope that other organisations will follow their footsteps,” he said.

Founder of African Kind Hearts, Mrs. Daphne Olu Williams, said their organisation had in mind vulnerable women and children, to reach out and share love to them. “We should all consider ourselves as brothers and sisters and as one people,” she noted.

She encouraged chiefdom residents to send their children to school and urged the children to also pay attention to their books.  She applauded China-Africa People to people Friendship Action for the sponsorship.

In Rolath village, the mood was somber as the beneficiaries sang amid tears as they narrated how the Ebola outbreak devastated them. A village of about ten houses, the crying residents explained that Ebola killed forty-eight people, including six pregnant women, and left behind thirty-one orphans.

Happiness could be seen in the faces of the orphans as they each received a bag of rice and onion, cooking oil,  milk, sugar, school bags containing pen, pencil, eraser and sharpener, tooth brush, disinfectant, towel, baby foods, bathing soap and an envelope containing cash to be used to buy uniforms and footwear.
