Sierra Leone and Mbabane Highlanders defender, Baimba Kamara, has dragged his club to the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) in respect of an ongoing transfer tussle.
The out-of-contract full-back, in a letter copied to the Premier League of Swaziland (PLS) and leaked to several media houses in the country, asked the local football body to intervene as he seeks clearance for a move elsewhere.
Kamara stated in his letter which was filed on Monday June 15 that he had tried in vain to get the team’s top officials to talk to him over a new contract despite him exhausting all communication channels.
“I’m frustrated as I rely on football to make a living. I need the support of the offices (PLS/NFAS) to get my clearance,” reads Kamara’s letter in part.
According to reports in Swaziland, the PLS acting Chief Executive Officer, Lindiwe Matsenjwa, confirmed receipt of the letter but referred comments to the NFAS.
NFAS’s Frederick Mngomezulu said his office learnt about the letter but stated that he had not seen it. “We’re aware of such a letter. If the reports about the clearance demands are anything to go by, then the matter will be referred to the Players’ Status Committee.”
Highlanders Public Relations Officer, Celucolo ‘Dino’ Dlamini, told Swazi journalists that his office was taken aback by the move of the Sierra Leone international, adding that the matter could still be addressed internally.
Dlamini refuted the player’s statement that they were giving him a cold shoulder. “We’re still searching for a coach who will assess all the players and decide on those he still wants at the team.”
The former Mighty Blackpool defender’s contract with the Highlanders expired at the end of the 2014/15 league season.
