He added that the car wash project has a deadline and the youth are currently going through the requisite training before the official handing over ceremony.

Asked why he led the team to monitor all the car wash centers, he said, “service delivery is my paramount concern and I need to be a servant leader so my staff will emulate this good work.” He said their target is to achieve the middle level manpower as envisioned by President Julius Maada Bio. He said the New Direction train is moving fast to empower and capacitate young people.

The Deputy Youth Minister said he recently travelled across the country to monitor the Youth in Agriculture Project after acquiring 6000 acres of land, so the car wash cannot be an exception.

VLK Muana, Director of Livelihood Skills Training Project said the construction of ten car wash started almost three months ago. He went on to say that he was impressed with the project so far.

According VLK Muana, the ten constructed car wash centers in Freetown was just a pilot phase that is expected to be replicated across the country. He called on the beneficiaries to be steadfast and use the centers as their own, firstly as an employment and secondly for their livelihood.

He said the car wash project is just one of the many projects designed and developed by the Youth Ministry, stressing further that their mandate is to deliver and make young people self-reliant in society.

The Old Wharf Youth Chairman, Mohamed Koroma aka Collabo thanked the Ministers of Youth Affairs for answering to their call in upgrading the car wash centre.

He said the project will reduce idleness among those he described as “ghetto youths.” He assured that they will protect the property and all other equipment provided by the Ministry.
