Diploma 2 students booked their place in the grand-finale of ongoing Mass Communication Students Association (MACOSA) gala after defeating their seniors, BA Year 2, 1-0 last Friday at the Havelock grounds, Fourahbay College.

The keenly contested encounter between the two sides saw the defending champions and evenyaul winners edging past their seniors as they seek to retain their title for the second year in a row.

Captain of BA Year 2, Sahr Morris Jr. expressed his disappointment with the outcome of the match, adding that the result does not reflect their performance.

He said: “We lost due to minor problems, and to be honest we performed badly in the first half but things were different in the second half and our striking force wasted lot of chances. The result does not reflect our performance.”

The BA Year 2 skipper wished the Diploma 2 team success in the final, adding that they have the potential to retain their title.

Assistant captain of Diploma 2, James Kamara-Manneh, was satisfied with his side’s resistance and their battle spirit which he believed could help them retain their title.

“Yes we’re not at our best but after scoring the all important goal we had few other chances that could have sealed the match for us, but that is football and I was pleased with the performance of my teammates because we were able to hold on and resist them [the opponent] throughout,”  Kamara-Manneh said.
