In a bid to avoid cholera and other diseases at the Brima Atouga mini stadium, Sierra Leone Social Aid Volunteer (SLSAV), with support from UNICEF, has provided water, sanitation and hygiene facilities for flood victims sheltering at the stadium.

Speaking to Concord Times at the stadium, east of Freetown over the weekend, Executive Director of SLSAV, Alfred Alex Jatta Dumbuya stated that their main goal was to improve wash facilities at the mini stadium to prevent the outbreak of diseases.

He said UNICEF has provided support to his organisation for the construction of six drop holes (latrines), six showers, and five Milla tanks to store water. He said some 60 hand washing stations have also been installed at the stadium to complement infection, prevention and control. “We are also constructing drainage for the free flow of waste garbage,” he said.

“When the flood occurred, I sent my staff to do psychosocial, child protection and community service at the Atouga stadium and affected communities,” he said.
