Blossom Pre & Academy has on Thursday, 11th April, 2019, observed their first annual speech day and prize giving ceremony at the school compound, Wilberforce in Freetown.
Chairperson of the celebration, Pastor Adikalie Bangalie Kamara, thanked the guests for attending the ceremony, stating that the school has taken a whole venture into realising quality education.
He observed that education is a strong pillar for national development, adding that pupils should take it as their main priority.
He thanked the parents for choosing the school for their children, and encouraged them to support their children in terms of education.
He noted that the school has chosen to award prizes to pupils who have worked very hard to maintain academic excellence, stating that striving towards excellence should be their main priority, as it gives joy to parents for seeing their children receiving prizes.
He described teachers as wonderful people in society because they are the ones that impact knowledge in the lives of children, and thanked them for their great work over the years.
Administrator of Blossom School, Edward Fatoma, said the school was founded on the 4th of April, 2018, with 188 pupils.
He said before he established the school, he was faced with so many challenges.
He said the building they were now occupying was an abandon structure, which he developed to the current standard after approval by the owner.
He noted that his vision was to build a highly competitive private school that will become the number one choice for both parents and students in the whole of Wilberforce community, adding that his vision reflects the school’s values, integrity, service, excellence and team work.
He further that the 2017/2018 academic year was very hectic for him, since it was the first academic year.
He narrated that in that same year, he was able to secure the code for the National Primary School Examinations (NPSE) which enabled his pupils to write the said exams.
“I am happy to announce that the NPSE exam 2018 was a big success as I was able to send 14 pupils and all of them were able to pass the exam. As I speak now, all of them are in Junior Secondary School (JSS).Also for the JSS3, we were able to send 8 pupils and they passed the exam with flying colours,” he said.
He noted that for this year, they were preparing to send 20 pupils for the NPES exam and 28 pupils for Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE).
He said they have introduced a program for the Junior Secondary School pupils and that he had secured buses for pupils who stay far away from the school.
He said the school has 26 trained and qualified teachers.
The proprietor continued that the school was about to start a computer class, but noted that he alone cannot do it all.
He solicited the support of parents and guidance as he embarked on the project, adding that he was facing challenges with parents in terms of paying their school fees and other school charges.
Guest speaker at the ceremony, Rev Oliver Harding, expressed his delight for the theme of the Prize Giving-Education for Empowerment.
He stated that Blossom Academy was ready to giving best teaching services to pupils at Wilberforce and beyond.
He noted that it was the responsibility of parents and guidance to ensure that they give their children the best, value and quality education, by providing them with the necessary things they need and sending them to better schools.
He noted that education is power for every human being, because after God is education, so it important for every parent to empower their children by sending them to school.
