Former national volleyball player, Mohamed Benson Bawoh, registered his name in the game’s history book after becoming the first Sierra Leonean referee invited to officiate in the All African Games (AAG) Beach Volleyball final match between Angola and Mozambique.
Bawoh was one of the three referees who officiated the final match as Angola defeated Mozambique 2-0 (21-18, 21-18).
Besides the grand finale, Bawoh also officiated several other matches in the competition, including the first semi-final match between South Africa and Tunisia, the second semi-final match between Mozambique and Rwanda, and the bronze medal clash between South Africa and Rwanda.
Since 2012 after he completed his international volleyball course, Bawoh has been considered by the continental body as a potential referee, and has attended many seminars for volleyball referees held at continental level.
