As part of their commitment to complement government’s effort in promoting education in the country, PTN Services on Tuesday June 16 provided school materials including bags, books, pens, pencils, geometry sets and one year tuition fees to thirty six (36) pupils of the Thomlison High School. The gesture is worth millions of leones and was delivered at a ceremony held at the organisation’s headquarters on 23 Adelaide Street, Freetown.
Presenting the cheque and the school materials to the Bursar of the school, Mr. Mohamed Kargbo, the Managing Director of PTN Services, Ponsford T. Nimneh, admonished the pupils – especially the girls – to take their education seriously. He said for the past six years, his institution has been providing scholarships to deserving pupils of that school as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Mr. Nimneh said the Ebola outbreak has seriously affected business activities in the country but stressed that the donation was a demonstration that they are with the pupils.
Receiving the cheque and materials, Bursar Mohamed Kargbo lauded the institution for the donation, describing it as timely especially when the senior secondary school is yet to be approved by government. He said PTN Services is the only institution that is supporting their school and the pupils.
He disclosed that over two hundred pupils have benefited from the annual scholarships provided by the institution within the last six years, adding that the company constructed an Ebola holding centre for the community last year as part of their contribution to stemming the Ebola virus in the community.
SSS 3 pupils, Alpha Kamara and Doris Charles an orphan, thanked the company for coming to their aid. They pleaded with Mr. Nimneh not to stop the scholarship project since they do not have people to support their education.
“If you decide to stop the scholarship project, it will seriously affect my education since I am an orphan. We are appealing to you to continue to support our education,” Doris Charles said passionately pleaded.
It could be recalled that this is not the first time PTN Services has undertaken such a project. The company rehabilitated the Adelaide Street police station, sourced seed money for the construction of the new Lumley police division, and supported the Milton Margai School for the Blind and the military in the Ebola fight, among several other interventions.
