Sierra Leone delegation was pleased to settle for silver and bronze medals at the just concluded ANOCA Zone II male and female Beach Volleyball Championship in Banjul, The Gambia.
The Sierra Leone male side won silver in the Men’s division after forfeiting the gold medal match against the tournament host, Gambia from a winning position.
According to report from Gambia, Sierra Leone was leading Gambia 13-10 in the first set when the number 1 and back-player Ibrahim S. Kamara, got down on the sand, complaining of body pains.
Kamara was later rushed to the hospital and the match abandoned. According to FIVB rules (rule 6.4.3), that situation will result to an incomplete team since one man cannot play a Beach Volleyball match. The points required for Gambia to win match was awarded to them with score as 2-0(21-13 & 21-0).
The male team made it to the semi-finals with victory over Cape Verde 2-0 (21-16 & 21-16) to register two wins out of two after an earlier success over Mali 2-1 (21-11 &21-10) in the male division and 2-0(21-10 & 21-6) in the female division.
