Black Stars of Ghana

Black Stars of Ghana will host Leone Stars of Sierra Leone on 11 October 2018, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi for their third round match of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

According to information from Accra, like he did for their Group F opener against Ethiopia, the Ghanaian coach, Kwasi Appiah, again requested that the Black Stars return to their favourite grounds for the AFCON qualifier.

Before last June’s 5-0 victory over Ethiopia, the Black Stars last played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in their AFCON 2017 qualifying matches.

The Baba Yara Sports Stadium is no stranger to Sierra Leonean team as the home-based Leone Stars were defeated 4-1 by the local Black Stars during the opening match of the 2013 WAFU Zone B tournament.

Also known as the Kumasi Sports Stadium, the venue is a multi-purpose stadium based in Kumasi, Ashanti. It is Ghana’s largest stadium, with a seating capacity of 40,528. The Kumasi Stadium is used mostly for football matches, although it is also used for athletics. It is the home of one of Africa’s most popular sports club, Asante Kotoko.

The stadium hosted 6 group matches and one of the semi-final matches of the 1978 African Cup of Nations tournament. During the 2000 African Cup of Nations, the stadium hosted 7 matches. It was later used for the 2008 African Cup of Nations.

Ghana faces a doubleheader against Sierra Leone when the qualifying process resumes in October.
