Sierra Leone national Ruby 7 team has pulled-out this year’s regional championship rugby Africa 7 tournament, thereby limiting their chance of qualifying to the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The tournament which will take place mainly at the Robert Champroux Stadium in Marcory, Abidjan, Ivory Coast, will run from September 15 to 16 with 8 Nations to compete after the withdrawal of Sierra Leone and Togo.
Sierra Leone pulled-out due to lack of funds while much detail was not given over the withdrawal of Togo.
Already, the tournament host, Ivory Coast, has been placed in Pool ‘A’ against Mali, defending champion, Guinea and Burkina Faso, while Pool B composed of Nigeria, Benin, Niger and Algeria.
The tournament is organized to allow federations that do not participate in the first division competitions to keep the pace with the “Regional Sevens” which will offer the winner ticket for the qualifications of the upcoming 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
