Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, 2018 National Grand Coalition (NGC) party Presidential Candidate, has disclosed that Sierra Leone’s economy has collapsed.

The former UN Diplomat-cum-politician said, “I am an economist. An economy doesn’t collapse in a day. It is an accumulated problem.”

Many economists and political scientists have blamed the erstwhile ruling All Peoples Congress (APC) for wrecking the country’s staggering economy. They lashed at former President Ernest Bai Koroma’s executive corruption and administrative decadence, which they say, has stagnated the country’s development.

One of such is a Senior lecturer at the Department of Political Science, Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, Dr. Habib M. Sesay.

According to Hon. Yumkella, who now doubles as Leader of the NGC in Parliament, “the problem is serious,” noting that, not that President Julius Maada Bio’s led government doesn’t know what to do, but the economy has collapsed and that the problem is an accumulated one.

He called on all Sierra Leoneans to help in the fight against corruption, a roadblock to national development.

“Let’s pray that the government succeeds,” he appealed and cautioned all politicians to engage in constructive criticism rather than criticise unnecessarily.

Assuring a cross-section of Sierra Leoneans in Atlanta, US, he affirmed that the ruling government has to succeed “otherwise we would have a problem.”
