The Sierra Leone national home-based squad on Wednesday departed Freetown for Nouakchott, Mauritania via Conakry for their first leg encounter in the home-based Africa Cup of Nations (CHAN) qualifiers.

The Les Mourabitones will host the Leone Stars this weekend at the Stade Nacional in Nouakchott with a possible return leg tie at the same venue the following weekend.

According to the SLFA media team, a 27-man delegation travelled from Freetown to Conakry where they are expected to board the Air Mauritanie flight to Nouakchott.

The team’s newly appointed head coach, Abdulai ‘Kaloga’ Bah, told the SLFA official website that the boys are in high spirit and are thirsty for glory.

He expressed optimism that they would progress to the next stage of the competition in order for them to enhance their chances of qualifying to the finals of the CHAN tournament in Rwanda next year.

“This is the beginning of a very long journey but we are taking the first step today to honour this fixture, and I’m sure we will return with our heads raised up,” said Bah. “The boys are committed and are well determined to make a change in Sierra Leone football for the better.”

The Sierra Leone delegation is headed by the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Chairman, Brima Jalloh, who also doubles as an Ex-officio member in the Isha Johansen-led administration.
