The Abdul Miracle Disabled Children’s Foundation (AMDCF) has on Saturday 17th February, officially opened its office at Wellington Street in Freetown with theme ‘promoting the hopes of marginalised people.’
Speaking during the ceremony, Founder and President of the Foundation, Sahr Christopher Moiwa, told journalists that he and his younger brother -Senesie Samah- decided to establish the organization in the United States after his (Sahr) wife and child involved in motor accident- with the child subsequently becoming disabled.
He said his main reason for coming to Sierra Leone with the Foundation was to extend a helping hand to children living with disabilities across the country.
He further that they were looking forward to helping over 250 children living with disabilities and that they were ready to working with any organisation in the country to make disables be a better people in society.
He disclosed that for now, they were not having support from any donor, thus calling on well-meaning local and international organisations to come onboard and give supporting hands
He said he had met with some persons with disabilities that are not homeless but are badly treated by their relatives.
He said they chose education as their main priority in the foundation because it’s the only tool they could provide for the vulnerable group.
He called on government to support persons with disabilities who are suffering in street of Freetown begging, thus promising to construct school for them so that they could be educated.
Mariama Sesay, a member of the AMDCF said they were helping persons with disabilities in the area of education and that the foundation was paying school fees, providing learning materials and psychosocial support for 60 children as at now in Freetown.
She said they would award scholarship to disable children.
