The former Secretary-General of the main opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has tendered a letter withdrawing his membership from the party.

In a letter dated 1st November, 2017 Sulaiman Banja Tejan-Sie Esq. informed the party that he was withdrawing his membership because of ‘recent happenings in the party.’

“I want to put my country first in everything regardless of regional or party sentiments. That time for change in our nation is now; therefore choosing country over party to achieve that dream is significant. I hereby withdraw my membership from the SLPP,” he said in a letter addressed to the party’s current Secretary- General, Umaru Napoleon Koroma.

He added that the time to build a cohesive coalition of political forces to take on the mantle of leadership to unify the people for effective and collective transformation of Sierra Leone was now.

“According to officials who have left the party, they have complained of vices in the party ranging from thuggery, violation of party’s constitution, disrespect for officials, tribal and regional sentiments, which have all resulted to the reasons why most senior officials continue to leave the party,” he said.

He continued that recently a host of officials like Andrew Keili, Dr. Kandeh Yumkellah, Dr. Dennis Bright, Dr. Joe Demby and many more have left the party.

“I am ready to work and support the alliance of progressive parties that are committed to achieve the aspirations of the sufferings of young people of this nation. I am at liberty to rejoin my political party if the party is ready to work with the ethical values and traditional policies of the founding fathers,” he declared.
