Sierra Leone international John Kamara on Thursday 20 August put pen to paper on a two-year deal with Greek second tier league side, Aris Thessaloniki FC.

The 27-year-old midfielder will join the Greek club from PAS Lamia for an undisclosed fee and he is expected to be unveiled alongside Honduran striker Carlo Costly.

According to the club’s website, the two players are expected in Greece today where they will be officially presented to the club fans.

The former Tadamon Sour and Apollon midfielder Kamara ended a week’s trial with the Greek side currently in Serbia as part of their pre-season tour ahead of the new league campaign.

The player’s move to Aris will end his one-year spell with PAS Lamia – a club which he had issues with in October 2014 after they told him not to train with the team on the advice of the Greek health ministry, following fears over the Ebola virus epidemic.

The midfielder later wore a t-shirt saying, “we are West Africans, not a virus”, a move which led to sanctions by the Greek Football Federation. The decision was however overturned following the world football governing body FIFA intervention.

Aris Thessaloniki has been champions of Greece three times. They have won the Greek Cup once and have remained undefeated at home in European competitions since 1968.
