Magistrate Albert J. Moody of Freetown Magistrates’ Court No.1, has on Tuesday (24th October 2017), remanded one Mohamed Koroma to the Male Correctional Centre for an alleged rape.

The accused person was before the court on one count of rape contrary to Section 6 of the Sexual Offences Act of 2012.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on Thursday 31st August, 2017, at Pentagon-Lumley in Freetown, allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman without her consent.

In her testimony, the victim recognised the accused person and recalled that on Thursday, 31 August, 2017, she was hawking when the former asked her about the price.

“I showed him the price but he told me that he hadn’t the money with him, so he asked me to meet him at his residence.  He told me that the said residence was not far away from where we were standing. He also told me that he wanted me as a friend and that I should give him my contact number but I refused,” the victim told the court, adding that the accused requested that she provide him with a lump of the cake she was hawking.

She said when they arrived at the accused’s residence, he asked her to enter his room but she refused, alleging that he cautioned her not to be afraid because his wife was not around and that he was searching for a better relationship.

“The accused entered his parlour and asked me to give him another cake. As I entered the parlour with the cake, he gave me ten thousand Leones (Le 10,000). When I bent down to look out for his change, he closed the door. I told him to open it but he refused and we started to fight. I had wanted to make a phone call in order to inform my husband but he took the phone away from me,” she explained.

She further explained that while they were fighting, she became tired and the accused over-powered her and lifted her skirt off, tore her pant and threw her on the floor.

“He immediately inserted his penis into my private part. After he had sexual intercourse with me, I started to experience severe pain in my stomach and all over my body. I also had wounds on my hands, legs and I saw white liquid oozing from me. He warned me not to tell anyone,” she told the court.

She also informed the court that the accused collected the Le10,000 from her, adding that when she moved away from him , she called her husband’s younger brother and told him about what had happened.

“I also informed the chairman of the area who later told my husband about the incident. On that same day, we reported the matter to the Lumley police station where I was issued medical form after a statement was obtained from me,” she explained.

Inspector Hawa Bah was the prosecutor and there was no legal representation for the accused.

The matter was adjourned to 31st August 2017.
