Director, Society for Knowledge Management-Sierra Leone (SKM-SL), Umaru Bangura has said record keeping was key to development in the country.
Bangura said good record keeping could be the easiest tool in the fight against corruption, as proper record-keeping could ease the work of auditors and anyone who might want to use the information.
“Keeping information is very important, especially on the day or time you may want to use it,” said Bangura.
He said more often than not people in high offices are accused of corruption as some lack documentary evidence to justify project expenditure, adding that such was undermining progress the country should make.
According to Mr. Bangura, Society for Knowledge Management strives to be endowed with a highly professional and experienced human resource base, with expertise in library, archive and information Studies.
He said his organisation seeks to improve the quality of access to information and knowledge in all spheres of life in general and in particular to foster knowledge management practice and proper record-keeping practices in Sierra Leone
Bangura, speaking at a workshop organised on the importance of record-keeping at the Sierra Leone Library Board, said the Society started in 2006 as a community-based organisation formed by three young graduates in Library and Information Science from Fourah Bah College, University of Sierra Leone.
