Sweissy jewelers organization, last weekend donated one hundred 50kg bags of rice and 200 bundles of sachet water to survivors of the August 14 flood and mudslide disaster  that are temporary camped at the Old Skool  complex, Hill Station in Freetown.

The donation was made in the presence of the coordinators at the camp of the twin disaster.

Earlier, the Financial Secretary of Sweissy Union Charity organization in the UK, Ibrahim Mustapha Fofanah, said when they learnt about the unfortunate situation in the country, they coordinated themselves to send relief to the victims.

He said the executive of the UK branch collaborated with its Sierra Leone counterpart to raise funds to feed the flood survivors.

“Our financial expenditure is Le20 million. But this is a charitable orgaisation, so we are on standby to respond to any form of disaster in our country,” he said.

Vice Chairman of Sweissy Jewelers’ organization in Freetown, Mohamed Lamin Sesay, consoled the victims and told them that the organization was feeling the same pinch as they were.

He said what happened to the country was unprecedented as the nation was recovering from the deadly Ebola virus that killed over 400 people.

He said their organization was moved by the numerous donations made by majority of Sierra Leoneans to the flood affected.

“We don’t want to miss out on this. This is not about individuals but Sierra Leoneans. We want to call on likeminded organizations to do the same. Our country has been hit twice-first Ebola and now mudslide,” he said.

One of the project coordinators, Soriba Fofana, said it was high time people changed their mentality about youth doing business at Sweissy.

Meanwhile, Musu R. Arun Conteh, from the Office of National Security attached at the Old Skool  camp, said she would make sure the donation reaches the beneficiaries.
