Jamaatul Nur of Northen California, a Sierra Leonean Muslim Jammat based in the United States, yesterday 28th September, 2017, donated food items worth millions of Leones to mudslide victims at the Mortemeh Community, Regent in Freetown.
Speaking during the donation ceremony, Chairman of ‘Jamaatul Nur, Alhaji Basbiru Savage, said his Jamaat was shocked when they heard about the sad news of both the flooding and mudslide disaster in the country, which claimed hundreds of lives and left hundreds homeless.
He said when they heard about the sad incident, they decided to task themselves in the Jamaat to see how they could help people affected by the mudslide with food items.
“The people affected in both disasters are our brothers and sisters. We felt really bad when we heard about the incident, especially the huge number of our brothers and sisters that lost their lives in the terrible incident,” he said.
He disclosed that the purpose of the Jamaat is to ease effort in facilitating Islamic events and functions in the community, to have an organized Muslim structure, to ease access for specific and general religious matters in the community and others.
Receiving the donation, Chairlady of the Mortemeh Community, Madusu Kamara, said they appreciated the gift and that they would make sure all the affected people benefit from it.
