FIFA and CAF certified Sierra Leonean referee, Billy Konneh is one of the referees that has been selected across Africa to officiate in this year’s West African Football Union (WAFU) tournament to be hosted in Ghana.
Konneh, who is one of the top referees in Sierra Leone on Tuesday departed the country’s shores for Accra where he is expected to perform the role of an Assistant Referee in the competition.
Before his departure, Konneh expressed his delight and appreciation to SLFA for ensuring that they as referees in the country were given such opportunities which exposed them to big competitions in Africa.
Billy further promised the SLFA and the entire nation that he’s going to “represent the little over six million people in Sierra Leone and he’s going to do that to the best of his ability and professionalism to raise the country’s flag.
The Sierra Leone Football Association General Secretary, Chris Kamara encouraged him and other referees to always be focused on their professional growth as the SLFA through the referees department at the Secretariat, will continue to provide them with professional FIFA and CAF trainings to enable them be exposed in international competitions at FIFA and CAF level.
The tournament will kick start on Saturday, 9th September, 2017 in Takoradi Ghana with the hosts battling with Gambia at 15:00hrs.
