IMPRESSED… Stanley Okumbi satisfied with what he has already seen

Head Coach of Kenya national team, Stanley Okumbi, believes he has finally selected the right blend and his best ever squad for the country just days before they start their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers campaign.

Okumbi will be at the helm of affairs when his Harambee Stars squad visits Freetown for their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers opener against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.

According to the Daily Nation, the Kenyan tactician believes he has finally found the right blend of players to handle not only their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers but also the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament.

“At the team’s morning training session on Friday in Machakos, Okumbi admitted for the very first time that he previously gambled perilously when making call-ups, before referring to the current squad as the “best” he has ever called up,” Daily Nation reported.

The tactician said: “Training has been exciting. We’ve had five days with the local players and they are all very impressive. As you can see there is only one foreign based player but I expect the rest to join camp by Monday next week.

“I think this is the best squad we have ever had. We have been calling up players and releasing them shortly afterwards, but right now, everyone looks well capable of the tough regional assignments we have ahead of us,” he said.

The Harambee Stars and Leone Stars will clash on Saturday, June 10, at the Siaka Steven Stadium in Freetown and will be both teams’ first competitive match this year.
