Elders, women, children and youth were among the huge crowd of Kambia residents to give philanthropists, chairman and founder of Kambia Friends Progressive Organsation (KFPO), Ibrahim Bangura, a heroic welcome.
Bangura, who is based in the United States of America, has been helping school children, youth and the people of Kambia with enormous philanthropist’s gesture, and as a way and sign of payback, the people decided to offer him such a red carpet welcome.
Addressing the joyous gathering, the KFPO Vice Chairman, Osman J Kamara, said Bangura was a unique character personified with humility and grace, adding that his contributions towards the people and the district could not be overemphasised.
“Ibrahim has been very good to all of us as he is supporting all sectors of development in this district through his organisation. He has contributed towards the fight against the Ebola virus of which he spent over Le 30 million. He also bought Public Announcing (P.A.) systems for three mosques including the central mosque and also built taps for the same mosques,” the KFPO vice chairman said.
He also revealed that the U.S based ‘son of the soil’ has also been contributing towards the development of education in the district by paying teachers’ salaries and also footing the bills of over 300 school going children in both primary and secondary schools.
In his statement, Bangura said he was delighted and taken aback with the kind of welcome he received from the people, adding that it showed that the people appreciated his little contributions he has been offering towards the development of the district.
He said: “I am pleased with what I saw and as a development oriented individual, my passion for development will continue and what I saw today will motivate me to do more.”
