Accused released on Le100M

Magistrate Dr.Abou Bhakarr Benneh-Kamara presiding at Siaka Stevens Street Magistrates’ court No.1 yesterday granted Le50 million bail plus one surety each in like sum to Baindu Conteh and Isatu Kamara after they appeared before him for allegedly setting fire on the hands of five year old girl, Mamie Momoh.
They have denied the charges.
According to Inspector Hawa Bah, the duo were arraigned on a count’s charge of Child Cruelty, contrary to Section 4 (1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Children Act of Caps (1) of the law of Sierra Leone 1960.
The particulars of offence state that the accused persons on Saturday October 1, 2016 at Bonga Town off Wilkinson Road, Freetown in the Western Area of the Republic of Sierra Leone maliciously wounded Mamie Momoh, a child below the age of 18 years to wit 5 years.
The magistrate ordered that the bail condition should be approved by the Acting Master and Registrar of the High Court of Sierra Leone.
The prosecutor applied for the matter to be adjourned on the grounds that she was yet to have conference with her witnesses.
The magistrate has adjourned the matter to January 5, 2017 for the prosecution to open its case.
