The Lokomasama Secondary School in Petfu town has got a new bus donated to them by a philanthropist and a son of the soil, Prince Alpha Kamara.
The bus was donated to the school on Sunday, 18 December, this year at a ceremony held at the school compound in Petfu town, Lokomasama chiefdom, Portloko district.
The ceremony brought together people from all walks of life including management and pupils of the school, government officials and local authorities.
In his statement, the philanthropist and son of the soil, Prince Alpha Kamara said he donated the bus to the school as way to promote education in the Lokomasama chiefdom.
Mr. Kamara noted that the donation of the school bus was among the many good intentions he has for his people and the chiefdom.
Prince Kamara told the gathering that it was his responsibility to help his people acquire standard education, saying the bus should be used to facilitate the movement of pupils to and from the school.
The education Secretary, Catholic Mission Sierra Leone, Reverend P. Manasaray, encouraged other indigenes of Lokomasama chiefdom to emulate the good example of Mr. Kamara and promote education in that part of the country. Reverend Mansaray said the Bus was an example of love, patriotism and nationalism from a son of the soil to boost education in that deprived community.
The Deputy Director of Education, Portloko district, Joseph Sesay, thanked Mr. Kamara for the goodies and made it clear that education was a priority and that parents should send their children to school.
Paramount Chief of Lokomasama Chiefdom, P.C Bai Marroh Laminaya Ngathor the second, said they as local authorities should become watchdogs for the school bus, so that it would be used for the intended purpose.
Chief Ngabathor admonished the school authorities to monitor the pupils so that the bus would not be vandalised.
The paramount expressed appreciation for the effort of Prince Kamara and encouraged him to do more and ensure that education grows in the chiefdom and Port Loko district in general.
The handing over of the key to the Deputy Director of Education, Port Loko district , the paramount chief of Lokomasama chiefdom and the management of the school climaxed the occasion with traditional singing and dancing.
