Prosecution witness, Sydney Gillen in the ongoing mountain Cut murder trial involving one Abdul Karim Kamara, who allegedly murdered Victor Emmanuel Patrick Lewis, yesterday told the court that the accused stabbed the deceased on his neck with a long sharp knife.
In his testimony before Magistrate Abou Bhakarr Binneh-Kamara of the Siaka Steven Magistrates’ Court No.1, Gillen told the court that he only came to know the accused on the day of the incident, adding that on 13 September, 2016 he was at Owen Street junction in the evening hours at around 7:8pm, when one of the sisters of the accused person called him.
“The accused’s sister then informed me that former had wanted to stab her. As a community safety volunteer (CSV), I followed the lady to Adams street junction and met the accused holding two bags. I greeted him and introduced myself to him but he told me that he was not there to cause any havoc and that he wanted to talk to his sister,” he testified.
The witness continues that he questioned the accused as to what was contained in the bags, but he replied that they contained nothing else but his personal effects.
“No sooner I told him to put the bags down than he removed a long sharp knife from the bag and stabbed me on my left hand. He again turned round and stabbed the deceased on his neck. The deceased fell down with blood oozing from the wounds he sustained,” he said”.
The witness continues that after the accused had stabbed the deceased, he ran away but was later chased, caught and brought to the Eastern police station, where a report was made on behalf of the deceased.
The accused is before the court on a count’s charge of murder, contrary to law.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused on 13 September, 2016 murdered the deceased, Victor Emmanuel Patrick Lewis.
