Sierra Leone Volleyball Association (SLVA) is currently bracing up to host the annual inter-regional tournament, which would attract all four regions; South, North, East and Western Area.
This year’s tournament, which would include both the traditional volleyball and beach volleyball, would be hosted in Freetown from 6-10th December.
According to a member of SLVA, Florience Amara, the double gender contest will play on round robin format with the two top teams to battle for this year’s championship in the grand-final.
She said: “The tournament is the biggest Volleyball competition in the country organised by the National Federation. The competition is primarily aimed at maintaining competitiveness, where players are expected to emerge and possibly drafted into the national teams for international competitions.”
Unlike the 2009 season when the Freetown Municipality hosted the event at the Victoria Park, Central of Freetown, this year’s tourney has been billed to be staged at the Siaka Stevens Stadium, as the Victoria Park recreation facility is now occupied with unfinished structures and currently out of use.
In a related development, SLVA has provided two balls and a net to all four regions ahead of the tournament kick-off.
The Western Area men teams are traditional winners in the men’s challenge but their female counterpart had endured a topsy-turvy run, while the male squad grabbed the title during the 2015 season, the Eastern Region surprisingly lifting the women’s crown in Kono.
