Cricket: KCC edges closer to premier league promotion

Kent Cricket Club needed just a win away to gain promotion from the Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) Division One to the Premier League.

The club, over the weekend registered two straight wins over the Albert Academy Cricket Club and Wanderers Cricket Club in the ongoing SLCA/ Mercury T20 Division One League at the Prince of Wales ovals.

On Saturday, KCC batted first after losing the toss to the Albert Academy Club. Kent scored 197 runs in their allotted 20 overs, Emmanuel Pessima registered an unbeaten 106 runs off 72 balls, while Ibrahim Kamara contributed with a sensational 35 runs off 22 balls. Desmond Phillie and Eustace Jones of Albert Academy took 2 wickets respectively in their 4-over spell.

In the batting reply, Albert Academy failed to chase the target and thus lost the match by 109 runs.

George Sesay was their top scorer with 27 runs and Desmond Phillie contributed 12 runs to the total. KCC Emmanuel Pessima was declared man of the match for his brilliant performance with the bat.

KCC matched Saturday’s win with another easy ride against Wanderers Club on Sunday. The Wanderers won the toss and decided to bat first and scored 110 runs in their stipulated 20 overs.

Abubakarr Kamara and Adolphus Massaquoi were the Wanderers top scorers with 26 and 25 runs respectively. Richard Tengbeh of KCC took 2 wickets in 4 overs for 18 runs and Osman Thomas Sankoh took 2 wickets in 4 overs.

In reply, Kent chased the target and won by 4 wickets with Osman Thomas Sankoh topping the score with 25 runs and Mohamed Lamin Kamara contributed 20 runs to the total. KCC now needed to beat promotional rivals, Old Princewaleans Cricket Club on Saturday to gain promotion.
