Officials and sports stakeholders from both the National Sports Council (NSC) and sporting disciplines on Thursday October 27, held a-day consultative meeting at the National Stadium Atlantic Hall, ahead of the country’s national sports conference.
Like it was previously done in the South, East, North and Western-rural regions, the consultative meeting brought all the stakeholders to have an input towards the sports ministry’s drive in repositioning sports in the country.
According to Alimu Bah, who is serving as one of the Sports Ministry’s consultants for the upcoming conference, the regional consultation was a stepping stone ahead of the conference in Makeni.
He said:” We did this regional consultation to have an input before the main conference and to also avoid prolong and unnecessary deliberations during the conference.
“We also looked at the sports policy guidelines in respect of the review of sports Acts, policy and code of conduct.”
The former Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President, also admitted that several recommendations were noted and the consultation team, after it exercise, would not only take note of the points raised, but would also present them in their report for deliberations in Makeni.
During the day’s deliberations, the sports stakeholders were able to identify and discuss innovative ideas that would impact the repositioning of sports for sustainable development in the country.
Also, an overview on the Service Charter of the Ministry of Sports, Evidence-based Stakeholders Engagement and the Impact of Sports on Sustainable Development, were all looked into.
Stakeholders from respective sporting disciplines, School representatives, women and sports and media houses all attended the consultative meeting.
